Dell has now launched NativeEdge globally, which it stated simplifies application orchestration and infrastructure management across thousands of edge devices and locations.
“NativeEdge is allowing people operating at the edge to extract what they need without compromising on security or the managabilty of the platform.” Pierluca Chiodelli, VP of engineering and technology in the edge computing unit at Dell told Silverlinings.
It’s completely a software product, Chiodelli said, built using cloud-native technology but is obviously deployed, at least partially, on premise in an enterprise’s factory or office building.
“The orchestrator can be deployed in the data center,” or a in public cloud, Chiodelli stated. “The end point is obviously on-prem,” he said. Dell also provides a hypervisor that virtualizes compute and memory resources.
Chiodelli noted that software companies like Lumen can cover some parts of the NativeEdge system. He claimed, however, that no other company can offer a system that comprehensively cover the edge.
Partners like Atos, Bosch, and Eaton are already working with Dell to include their software in the NativeEdge application catalog. Chiodelli noted that companies can also white label the NativeEdge software.
