ZTE and Cisco round out the top five.
Following five consecutive years of growth, worldwide telecom equipment revenues are projected to remain flat in 2023, analyst Stefan Pongratz reports in Dell’Oro Group’s introduction to its report on the market’s performance in the first half of 2023.
Worldwide telecom equipment revenues, excluding North America, increased by 7% in the first half, the group said. The decline in North America was anticipated, Dell’Oro said, after several years of high growth “but the pace of the contraction was slightly faster than expected,” the group noted.
Huawei still handily beat the rest of the telecom equipment vendors, despite blistering trade and technology bans being put against the Chinese vendor by the U.S. and European governments. Huawei had a market share of 28.6% in the first half of 2023, followed by Nokia with a 15.3% share and Ericsson at 12.5%.
The only U.S. vendor to graze the bottom of the top five ranking was Cisco with a 6.2% share for 1H23. It trailed ZTE, which had a higher share with a 10.4% ranking for the first half of the year.
"Vendor dynamics remained mostly stable between 2022 and 1H23, with a few exceptions. Ciena surpassed Samsung, and the gap between Nokia and Ericsson widened, reflecting, to some extent, the technology mix between wireless and wireline," the firm noted in its report.
Cloud and telecom infrastructure covered by Dell'Oro includes the radio access network (RAN) and mobile core, as well as routers and switches and microwave and optical transport networks.
