About 6G Evolution Summit

When Fierce Network first launched the 6G Evolution Summit back in 2022, there was a slight sense that it was too soon to be talking about this next generation of connectivity before 5G had even taken off. But two years on and we have seen the increased momentum and excitement around the 6G industry which is currently on track to reach a tremendous value of $46.20 billion by 2033. And with the first specifications of 6G detailed in 3GPP’s Release 19 as early as next year, it’s time for communication service providers (CSPs) to reflect on what progress has been made so far and what needs to be done to foster in the new connectivity ecosystem. Join Fierce Network’s 6G Evolution Summit where we will invite industry leaders to discuss the latest topics and developments in the 6G discussion.

Session 1: Defining the 6G Future: Use cases, Current Progress and What to Expect

With 5G rollout well underway, many CSPs are turning their heads toward 6G — and so they should. 3GPP’s Release 19, expected in late 2025, details the initial groundwork required for developing 6G networks. CSPs must stay ahead of the game to ensure they retain a competitive edge. The 6G era is defined by groundbreaking use cases, including digital sensing, manufacturing automation and the tactile internet. However, before these go from concept to reality, CSPs must first build their ecosystem of essential players. Join this session as speakers will discuss what the 6G future will bring, what progress has been made so far regarding its evolution, and what we can expect in the years to come.

Session 2: 5G Advanced – Bridging the Gap Between 5G and 6G

For many CSPs, the rollout of 6G lies on the back of getting 5G right. Last year, Fierce Network discussed the importance of 5G Advanced in laying the foundations for 6G networks. With 3GPP’s Release 18 officially marking the start of 5G Advanced, the time has come for operators to look ahead at how 5G Advanced use cases can foster the 6G era. During this session, speakers will review how the rollout of 5G Advanced has impacted their plans for 6G. They will also discuss lessons learned, pivotal use cases and progress to expect over the next year.

Session 3: Navigating the THz Spectrum with AI/ML

The key enabler for the ultra-high speed, low-latency communication envisioned for 6G is the utilization of the terahertz (THz) spectrum. THz spectrum uses much higher frequencies than those used for current 5G and 4G connectivity. As such, it promises ultra-high data rates, massive bandwidth and extremely low latency which makes it ideal for the ambitious goal of ubiquitous and global connectivity. Nevertheless, the propagation of this spectrum creates challenges that necessitate advanced solutions. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are potential solutions that can be used for dynamic channel estimation, adaptive beamforming and enhanced signal processing which will allow CSPs to fully realize the potential of THz spectrum. Join this session where speakers will discuss the technical challenges of using THz spectrum and explore how CSPs can use AI and ML to mitigate those challenges.

11:00 AM - 11:20 AM Partner Keynote | Speaker: Andreas Roessler, Technology Manager, Rohde & Schwarz USA

Session 5: Delivering on Sustainability Objectives with 6G Connectivity

6G is set to revolutionize the communications landscape, promising unprecedented data speeds, ultra-low latency and ubiquitous connectivity. However, its potential for delivering sustainable networks is equally transformative. One of the key aspects of 6G that will contribute to sustainability is its inherent efficiency. Advanced technologies like AI-driven network optimization, intelligent resource management and energy harvesting will be integral to 6G. AI and ML algorithms can optimize network operations in real-time, reducing energy consumption by dynamically allocating resources based on demand and minimizing idle time. This leads to significant energy savings compared to the more static resource allocation in current networks. During this session, speakers will delve into how 6G technology can foster the development of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient networks, alongside what CSPs must do now to prepare for this transformation.
