In virtual and hybrid instruction, keeping students engaged is a concern all institutions face. To address this issue, Austin Community College (ACC), a community college district, is ensuring that instructors and students have access to the tools and resources needed to make synchronous virtual and hybrid learning efficient and effective.
One such tool that the institute has adopted is Class. ACC has streamlined proctoring, classroom management, and functionality with Class, to produce lasting outcomes.
During the beginning of the pandemic, ACC was forced to make the transition from face-to-face to virtual learning. But going virtual came with its own challenges and if the students were disengaged there was no way for the teacher to know what the students were doing.
ACC scanned various tools and equipment that enhanced teaching and learning. They wanted a tool that would be efficient in the management of the classroom and the research led them to Class, which they say was loved by both the management and faculty. Hence the institution adopted it as part of the tools they already had.
Class provides the functionality that reengages students and brings them back to the classroom. Among the new tool's notable features is its ability to project the faculty member on the podium and the ability to deploy learning tools in real time.
The faculty member can deploy quizzes and assignments and then also have the ability to proctor their students in real time. Class helped the institution go from one-on-one testing session to offering group sessions with one proctor and 15 students. The institution says they have saved over $500,000 in proctoring expense by using Class.
Higher education needs to be nimble, adaptive and flexible for the students. So if one is looking for a tool that allows the faculty to be able to manage the classroom effectively then the ACC recommends Class.
