Launched in 2016, eero set out to make wifi in the home simply work. No more dead spots, no more delays or buffering. The eero wifi system uses multiple access points and mesh networking technology to provide reliable wifi to every corner of the home, seamlessly integrating smart devices and delivering additional online security using an intuitive mobile app.
eero continues to deliver simplicity and reliability to its service provider customers and the property managers they serve with a newly-developed, purpose-built solution, for managed properties that makes it easy to deploy and manage eero mesh wifi for their residents. With eero devices left in place, there’s no need to schedule technician visits or wait for internet and wifi service to be configured. When a new tenant arrives, they can set up and customize their personal private network and get online in minutes via the eero app, without needing a technician appointment or purchasing wifi equipment.
eero’s TrueMesh
eero uses network intelligence to find the ideal path for data transfer, limiting interference and helping ensure fast, reliable internet. Every eero device connects wirelessly to every other eero device within range to create redundant connections and automatically determine an optimal path for data transfer. By dynamically choosing the ideal path, TrueMesh optimizes performance based on network layout, interference from neighboring networks, and connected devices - which is especially beneficial in apartments and condos where the wifi conditions constantly change.
eero recently released updates to TrueMesh for all eero devices running compatible software that improves the ability of TrueMesh to find the ideal route and quickly switch paths to ensure performance for each client device user on the network by evaluating the connection of each device connected to the network, not just eero device connections. Updated TrueMesh spreads network traffic more evenly across the mesh links in a network resulting in up to a 50% increase in throughput and 20% lower latency.[1]
In an MDU with multiple networks in close proximity, TrueMesh provides optimized traffic management and improved performance for all. And in the event that a shared internet connection goes down, eero Internet Backup lets residents use backup wireless connections, such as a personal mobile hotspot or nearby wifi network, to help them stay online until service is restored.
In some instances, the building owner has contracted for fiber or broadband service and connects service to each unit. In other instances, the individual tenant or owner of the property is required to have their own router to establish service. eero builds the wifi network within the residence regardless of internet provider; however, eero provides software solutions to a number of internet service providers to create a quick and seamless wifi management experience in both single and multiple dwelling units.
eero for Communities
eero residential wifi has been highly regarded for years and the new eero for Communities software makes it easier to deliver and manage individual residential wifi networks within MDUs. Regardless of the internet service configuration, the eero app enables the quick configuration and activation of eero wifi in each individual unit. On the back end, usage and billing can be integrated into existing property management systems or service provider systems.
Property managers can bundle wifi with rent or offer other value-added services such as smart home devices including doorbell cameras, thermostats or utility sensors. eero for Communities seamlessly delivers advantages for residents, property managers and service providers including:
- Each unit/apartment gets a dedicated network, controllable and customizable by the resident. Resident devices and traffic can be completely isolated and secured from all devices in the MDU.
- Self-service activation and management at move-in. Residents can quickly activate their individual wifi network, change wifi name and password, create access profiles and manage their home network.
- Residents have access to additional online eero security features in the mobile app including parental controls, threat protection, and ad blocking.
- Property managers can utilize Service Left in Place (SLIP). SLIP eliminates the need for tenants to purchase or lease additional equipment and enables rapid activation of the wifi network and attached devices as soon as the tenant arrives, without truck rolls or service calls, utilizing the eero management dashboard, soon to be available.
- A separate property-wide IoT network that can be used to connect property-owned smart home devices such as door locks, thermostats and sensors to enable property managers to quickly and easily change door lock combinations, monitor temperature settings and issues that might arise during an absence.
- Over-the-air software updates are automatic for eero devices to get the latest features and security updates.
- eero’s firmware senses when radio frequencies are overloaded and automatically adjusts performance, channel selection and transmit power for each individual network to optimize performance in dense environments.
eero Insight
Service providers that leverage SLIP to help avoid truck rolls, reduce IT costs and improve customer service. Residents are quickly on-boarded, internet is available in minutes, and wifi can be configured on day one. When ISPs use eero Insight to manage networks, they can proactively resolve issues swiftly and reduce customer support calls. One US service provider partner reported a 90% reduction in issue call volumes when using eero.
eero for Communities is an innovative approach for delivering and managing wifi in apartments, condos, and other multi-unit properties. With eero for Communities, internet service providers and property managers save time and money while empowering residents to quickly activate and configure their wifi without the hassle of finding their own ISP and scheduling an installation appointment.
[1] Assumes at least a 1 Gbps internet connection and a multi-eero network topology - performance benefits are assessed at the extender only. Performance testing included a range of clients (1-10) connected to an eero Pro 6E / eero Pro 6 running eeroOS versions with and without this new functionality enabled.
