VeloSky and the Future of Network Convergence for GenAI-Driven Enterprises

Broadcom’s SVP & GM of the VeloCloud Division, Sanjay Uppal, introduced VeloSky, a groundbreaking solution for network convergence. Sanjay Uppal, we're here at the Broadcom booth. What announcement did you guys make at MWC this year?

Sanjay Uppal:

So we've announced a new product. It's called VeloSky, and the idea of VeloSky is that it's a product for network convergence, meaning that if you're a telecom operator and you have multiple underlays, then you can converge all of them into one on the basis of individual applications. Essentially, think of it as an application level slice that you can set up on top of all of your networks.

Diana Goovaerts:

Okay. And what does this announcement mean for the future of modern operations?

Sanjay Uppal:

So this announcement is really important because prior to this, it was network slicing that people would talk about, but network slicing is not what the enterprise is interested in. They're interested in application level performance, application level QoS and slicing. As an example, I have here a pair of Meta Ray-Ban glasses. When I put them on, they send video in the upstream direction and audio in the downstream direction. Now, certain enterprises will use glasses like this to prioritize applications and the network has to respond. Now, this pair of glasses, there's a lot more traffic going upstream than downstream. If one can recognize it in the network, then you can charge more for applications that will support this kind of traffic that is coming from these glasses.

Diana Goovaerts:

Great. And so what's the significance of this announcement more broadly speaking?

Sanjay Uppal:

The significance is actually quite enormous. In this new age of AI, what we are finding out is that the new generative AI applications behave completely differently from the applications that we are used to today. So the significance of VeloSky is that we recognize the generative AI application and we allow the telco to set up new services that they can monetize. Because of the recognition of the application, the prioritization of the application, and securing the application, everything from a pair of glasses like this, all the way into the large language model that is addressing the other end point of these glasses.
