Sonus Networks is combining its SIP-based session border controller (SBC) technology with Diameter signaling technology from F5 networks to help mobile operators to deliver services and service entitlements to customers as they roam across LTE and 3G networks.

The companies said their new partnership "addresses needs of the growing numbers of operators who are deploying LTE and IMS networks and IPX carriers offering roaming across them."
The vendors are specifically pairing the Sonus 5000 series of SBCs with the F5 Traffix Signaling Delivery Controller to combine session and Diameter signaling control capabilities.
"The integration of F5's Diameter-based products with the Sonus SBC portfolio is logical, as they perform complementary functions to enable flexible service delivery across multiple types of networks," said Zeus Kerravala, founder and principal analyst of ZK Research.
Sonus also recently joined with Juniper Networks on a new alliance focused on developing software defined networking (SDN) capabilities for video and unified communications (UC) services.
