Birch Communications has named Kevin Dotts as its new EVP and CFO, marking the latest in an ongoing realignment of its top management ranks.
Dotts, who actually assumed the CFO position on Feb. 7, will oversee all financial operations and investor relations, along with corporate sourcing for the company. He is based out of the company's Atlanta Operations Center and will report to Tony Tomae, president and CEO at Birch.
Dotts brings over 30 years of financial experience to Birch and has been noted as an expert in driving key corporate growth initiatives across multiple high-tech industries.
Prior to coming to Birch, Dotts served as CFO of Internap, a cloud, hosting and colocation business. Earlier, Dotts was EVP and CFO at Culligan International in Chicago and EarthLink in Atlanta. He started his career with financial leadership roles in various domestic and international divisions of GE.
Putting in place a new CFO appears to be part of a broader effort by Birch revamp its management team. Some of the other notable new management appointments under Tomae's short tenure at Birch include Paul Masters as SVP of Alternate Channels and fellow former EarthLink executive Jim O'Brien as EVP and COO.

Enhancing the management team will allow Birch to pursue business development and organic growth opportunities with the small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) market, one that had been a major target for cable operators. Now that many of these contracts are coming up for renewal, Birch is confident it can lure a new set of customers.
Tomae told FierceTelcom in a previous interview that cable’s ongoing movement to pursue larger business accounts could be a gain for the competitive provider.
"Our sweet spot is the SMB and mid-market, but I like that our conversations with our sales reps is that we're doing very well when we come up against cable,” Tomae said.
