As CenturyLink integrates Level 3's assets into its fold, the service provider is looking for the FCC's permission to shed some legacy services that were carried over from Level 3's acquisition of TelCove in the Sarasota, Florida, metropolitan area.
Level 3 previously purchased TelCove in 2006 in a bid to expand its fiber network reach.
Upon getting necessary regulatory approvals, CenturyLink plans to discontinue the affected services on or around July 30.
Specifically, CenturyLink is looking to shut down several business-grade voice and data services.

Besides POTS, analog and digital T1 services, CenturyLink also wants to discontinue offering primary rate interface, Centrex, remote call forwarding and toll-free service.
CenturyLink said in its FCC filing (PDF) that it had sent a written notification of the planned discontinuance to customers utilizing the services in accordance with Section 63.71(a) of the Commission’s rules.
The service provider said it is considered nondominant with respect to the services to be discontinued.
This latest request is just one of several CenturyLink has been making to shed legacy services from its roster as it migrates more towards IP and software-based solutions for business customers.
Earlier this year, the service provider asked the FCC for permission to shut down several low-speed data and analog services in 24 states located in its predecessor company CenturyTel’s territories, citing a similar lack of demand as well as Frame Relay and ATM services as well as its Call Event and Management Signaling Service.
