Colt Technology Services has rolled its On Demand service into Singapore while also launching SD-WAN in Asia Pacific and the United States.
Both the SD-WAN and On Demand Carrier Ethernet services are delivered via Colt's universal customer premises equipment (uCPE), and they company said they are now available on a self-install basis for faster customer delivery.
“As enterprises continue to demand greater agility, higher performance and network expense optimization, the demand for managed SD WAN solutions has accelerated," Colt CEO Carl Grivner said in a LinkedIn post this morning. "And according to Gartner, enterprise spending on SD WAN will grow 30.2% by 2022 to become a $1.8 billion market. At Colt, we’re focused on empowering enterprises' digital transformations and enabling businesses to take full control of their network. That’s why we’ve extended our SD WAN offering globally and launched our On Demand services in Singapore."
"With our SD WAN and On Demand services, organizations can now take full control over their agile, high bandwidth network in the way that best suits their business needs.”
For uCPE, FierceTelecom previously reported that Colt is using Adva's Ensemble Connector as the network operating system for third-party applications and services, including new virtual network functions (VNFs), SD-WAN and new virtual firewalls. The boxes for uCPE are currently being provided by Advantech, but Colt plans on adding more vendors next year.

Both the SD-WAN and On Demand services are part of Colt's Novitas platform. Powered by software-defined networking (SDN) control and orchestration, the Novitas program handles network orchestration, including automated real time service quoting, ordering and delivery, service capability development and SDN federation.
Colt's SD-WAN service features application-based traffic steering, real-time service charge changes via a portal, virtual routing and firewall services that are enabled by network functions virtualization (NFV.)
Colt launched its On Demand service last year in Europe and then in Japan this year. Colt’s On Demand offering is an enterprise-grade service that has generated a lot of interest from Colt's enterprise customer base, but it is also seeing interest from our wholesale carrier customers, according to information provided by Colt.
An enterprise customer will typically use Colt's portal to order on-demand services and flex the bandwidth in line with their end applications while a wholesale customer might be more interested in integrating Colt's On Demand API into its own BSS/OSS stack to transform the front end order experience.
In June, Colt announced the launch of its U.S. network in 13 cities across 30 data centers. Colt expects to launch its On Demand bandwidth service in the U.S. in the fourth quarter.
