Enea and Lanner Electronics have teamed up on getting universal customer premises equipment (uCPE) platforms into the market for entry-level SD-WAN and security use cases.
While Verizon, Masergy and Colt Technology Services have deployed uCPE as part of their business services, uCPE deployments have been on a slow roll for the rest of the telecommunications industry.

Lanner and Enea hope to goose uCPE rollouts by combining Lanner's Intel x86-based "Whitebox Solutions" hardware with Enea's NFV Access platform. Enea says its NFV Access platform has a minimal software footprint that was designed specifically for uCPE deployments.
The combined package scales from the Lanner's entry-level LUNA-D125 box featuring a 2-core Intel Atom CPU and 2GB of memory, to high-end Xeon devices such as Lanner's NCA-4010.
The boxes could be used by both communication service providers and enterprises for high-volume deployments in business areas such as retail, point-of-sales and logistics.
"Operators and enterprises are looking for alternatives to traditional network appliances because they no longer want complex, inflexible, and costly solutions," said Adrian Leufvén senior vice president of Enea's OS Business Unit., in a statement. "We see a shift to solutions based on white box hardware and open virtualization software because that is the most flexible and cost-efficient combination. Together with Lanner, we now address this market with an optimized offering."
