As part of a fiber upgrade in Northern India, Netplus will deploy Nokia's GPON technology to increase both capacity and speeds in its network.
Nokia said its GPON platform would integrate with Netplus' existing network, which will allow the service provider to expand and grow its network without changing the networking gear. The network upgrade will enable Netplus, which is the broadband arm of Fastway Media, to provide quad play services in India, including IPTV.
Nokia's GPON technology will be rolled out across the country with initial deployments starting in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Nokia's GPON solution includes its mini optical line termination technology, which boosts the speed of fiber networks, and its Wi-Fi optical network termination product. Nokia said that its GPON platform eliminates the need for a central office while also improving cost efficiencies.
"The demand for high speed and quality broadband is increasing across the country. Our network infrastructure will allow us to provide best-in-class broadband network to our subscribers," said Fastway Group CEO Prem Ojha, in a prepared statement. "We are confident that Nokia's field-proven products and solutions will enable us to enhance the overall quality of our services and will also empower Netplus Broadband in delivering converged services that include hi-speed broadband, smart voice, OTT and IPTV services."
Nokia's primary rivals are Ericsson and Huawei.
