RCN Business has extended its network into the desirable Newark, NJ’s 165 Halsey Street data center, reflecting the service provider’s growing presence in the data center interconnection market.
What makes the connection special for RCN Business is that it will give its carrier and business customers access to a 1.2 million-square-foot carrier neutral SSAE-16 certified data center space.
Specifically, 165 Halsey Street has more than 80 MW of power and interconnection to more than 60 U.S. and global network operators.
RCN Business said the 165 Halsey colocation does not require customers to pay monthly recurring cross connect fees between customers.

By establishing a connection into 165 Halsey, RCN Business can offer the facilities’ tenants its entire suite of services, including Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Hosted Voice, PRI/SIP Trunks and Video (HDTV), as well as Ethernet E-Line, E-LAN and dark fiber services.
Establishing interconnection points at key data centers in the markets RCN Business serves has become a growing priority for the service provider.
Previously, RCN Business expanded its network into other key data centers and carrier hotels including the Telehouse facility located at 85 10th Avenue in New York City, and 325 Hudson in New York City.
Outside of New York City, RCN Business enhanced its Greater Boston area data center footprint by opening new facilities in Bedford and Waltham, MA, in 2015.
The service provider also opened a new data center in 115 Second Avenue in Waltham and plans to open a second data center at 55 Middlesex Turnpike in Bedford, MA, later this month.
Providing interconnection and services at key data centers and interconnection points in large markets like New York City and Boston-area cities like Waltham where there’s a wealth of large business parks enables RCN Business to deepen its presence with existing customers, but also attract new customers that are looking for alternative service sources.
These agreements could also potentially be an attraction for a host of nontraditional service providers in the content and cloud services space that need access into major metro markets that RCN Business serves like Boston, New York City and Chicago.
