RCN, Grande and Wave Broadband have added 22,000 customers into the fold with the conclusion of a deal to buy Houston-based EnTouch Systems. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
EnTouch provides high-speed internet, video, voice and home security services in the greater Houston area to business and residential customers, and it's a good fit with Grande Communications' Texas footprint. Grande provides residential and business services in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Waco, Temple, San Marcos and Midland/Odessa.
“With the acquisition of EnTouch, the company will be joining the Grande Communications ecosystem, which also includes RCN and Wave Broadband, allowing customers to take advantage of Grande’s higher internet speeds and streaming services,” said CEO Jim Holanda, in a statement. “The addition of EnTouch creates further opportunities for sustained growth in our Texas service area and continues the expansion of our reliable, robust fiber-rich network on a national scale for both residential and business customers.”
EnTouch has been has been providing services to businesses and homes in the greater Houston area since 1996. It claims to be one of the first providers in the Houston area to offer quad play bundles,
Wave Broadband, Grande Communications and RCN Communications are all owned by TPG Capital. TPG paid $2.25 billion several years ago to buy Grande and RCN and then bought Seattle-based Wave in 2018 for about $2.36 billion.
Reuters reported earlier this month that Astound – the U.S. cable operator group that includes Wave Broadband, RCN and Grande Communications – was looking to sell off its cable assets for more than $8 billion.

According to a FierceVideo story, TPG has enlisted JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley to advise on any potential sale of the businesses, which offer video and broadband services across parts of California, Chicago, Massachusetts, New York City, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.
Also in September, Wave, RCN and Grande collectively surpassed the one-million subscriber mark.
