TierPoint announced that customers in seven of its data centers now have access to Megaport's network-as-a-service (NaaS) offering, bringing its total to 15 data centers.
TierPoint added access to Megaport's software-defined inteconnection services in Andover and Marlborough, Massachusetts, Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, Hawthorne, New York, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Allen, Texas and Spokane, Washington.
Prior to the most recent expansion, access to Megaport's platform was available in TierPoint's data centers in Chicago, Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, Papillion, Nebraska, Norristown, Pennsylvania, Nashville, Tennessee, Dallas, Texas, and Seattle.
In the NaaS sector, Megaport competes against Alkira, Aviatrix, PacketFabric, and Pureport in helping enterprise IT teams build their own networks by using existing cloud infrastructure.
Megaport was founded in Australia in 2013 with the goal of connecting its customers to cloud service providers, which then led it to build a physical network that it could overlay its software platform on. Megaport then struck deals with cloud service providers that allowed its customers to connect to multiple clouds within 60 seconds.

"Megaport's on-demand NaaS platform connects with over 360 service providers, including many leading hyperscalers and SaaS providers," said Megaport's Eric Troyer, chief marketing officer, in a statement. "This aligns well with TierPoint's commitment to provide their customers with a flexible and scalable environment to solve the challenges of adopting and scaling cloud services.
"Direct connections to cloud onramps improve performance, scalability, and can reduce costs. By using Megaport Cloud Router (MCR), TierPoint customers can make cloud-to-cloud connections through 'point, click, and connect' provisioning — making multi-cloud networking fast and easy. We're delighted to continue growing with TierPoint."
TierPoint provides connected data center and cloud solutions at the edge of the internet. It has more than 40 data centers in 20 U.S. markets and eight multi-tenant cloud pods all of which are connected by a coast-to-coast network.
"In response to growing demand, the new deployments nearly double Megaport's presence across our portfolio and further enhance the connectivity options available to the thousands of clients that have selected our world-class, edge-capable data centers for their cloud and hybrid IT needs," said TierPoint Chief Revenue Officer Tony Rossabi, in a statement. "This is yet another important step in our larger efforts to expand our carrier-neutral cloud ecosystem."
