Windstream has entered an SD-WAN pact with New Jersey-based service provider BCN Telecom to distribute services, marking the first of likely several wholesale agreements the service provider will make for its emerging SD-WAN platform.
BCN Telecom, a service provider specializing in multi-location, multi-product aggregation, will add Windstream Wholesale’s Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution to its nationwide product suite.
As the first Windstream Wholesale reseller partner to execute an SD-WAN agreement, BCN Telecom plans to extend the service to its entire network of agents, enabling them to provide their business customers this solution.

The new wholesale SD-WAN service, which was launched in April, allows reseller partners to manage their networks and remote devices from a single, cloud-based interface, rather than through traditional methods such as routers, firewalls and switches.
Windstream’s SD-WAN service uses SDN to accommodate real-time shifts in bandwidth demand and intelligently route traffic over public or private networks to reach multiple locations.
Wholesale partners that opt for the provider’s service can leverage two main connectivity options for SD-WAN: augmenting MPLS with higher bandwidth access solutions or replacing MPLS outright, reducing costs for aggregated high-speed Internet access at the data center.
Besides offering a number of broadband options, resellers will get access to various management and provisioning capabilities. A management tool offers resellers visibility and control in a single interface, including zero touch configuration for new locations, services and end-user security policies, as well as centralized administration and activation options for remote branches.
A reseller like BCN can also gain application visibility and control with the ability to immediately view and prioritize application network traffic, from mission-critical business apps to blocking or reducing the impact of non-business applications. Windstream’s Business Aware Cloud Network enables dynamic traffic steering in real time to ensure application performance.
For BCN, the value of using Windstream’s wholesale SD-WAN service is that they will be able to offer a tailored and secure, scalable and easy-to-deploy technology that fosters business transformation and success.
Getting BCN to become a wholesale SD-WAN partner is also important for Windstream as the service provider looks to increase its presence in the reseller community while enhancing the revenue potential of its wholesale channel.
