Ericsson announced upcoming changes to its senior management team, including the appointment of Chris Houghton to chief operating officer (COO) and Åsa Tamsons to lead Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions.
Both Houghton and Tamsons will report directly to Ericsson President and CEO Börje Ekholm. The appointments are effective November 1.
Houghton, who is currently SVP, Market Area North East Asia, has been with Ericsson for 35 years. He has served in management positions with Ericsson in China, India, Japan, the U.K., Ireland, Hungary and Sweden.
In his new role, Houghton will focus on cross group projects, including ongoing cost efficiency initiatives.
According to a press release, the appointments “underscore Ericsson’s commitment to accelerating its business transformation.” Growing the enterprise business is one of Ericsson’s top priorities.
In her new role, Tamsons, who joined Ericsson in 2018, will be tasked with growing enterprise wireless solutions and increasing profitability.
Mulhern, Mirtillo to retire
George Mulhern, SVP and head of Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS), will become advisor to BEWS starting on November 1, with plans to retire from Ericsson in 2024.
Nunzio Mirtillo, SVP and head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania & India, also will retire in 2024.
Recruitment processes to appoint successors to Houghton as head of Market Area North East Asia and Mirtillo as head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania & India, have been initiated. Houghton remains in the role until the process is concluded.
