MobileX, an MVNO that uses Verizon’s network, named two new hires: Peiti Feng as chief marketing officer (CMO) and Michael Lanzon as chief sales officer (CSO).
MobileX CEO Peter Adderton told Fierce in an interview last month that other than a NASCAR Cup Series sponsorship, the company, which launched earlier this year, hasn’t done any real marketing to date. That's obviously about to change.
A former Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA executive, Feng is charged with spearheading MobileX’s marketing initiatives, driving the business strategy on a global scale and elevating the brand’s visibility. She most recently spent five years in the cannabis industry, including helping Weedmaps create pre-IPO momentum.
Before the cannabis industry, Feng spent more than 10 years at Boost Mobile, where she oversaw brand, advertising, social, digital and experiential campaigns. She also oversaw the development and execution of consumer communication strategies and integrated marketing plans for several prepaid brands within the Sprint portfolio, including Virgin Mobile, Assurance Wireless and Sprint Prepaid, in addition to Boost Mobile.
Lanzon most recently served as SVP of Global Sales at RED Digital Cinema, where he drove the company's go-to-market strategy and oversaw the sales teams. Lanzon also has experience in the MVNO space; he worked for both Boost Mobile in Australia and the United States, Simple Mobile and TracFone.
Both Feng and Lanzon live in Orange County, California, so there’s no relocation happening for them. MobileX is headquartered in Orange County, but it’s also looking to expand globally. The company recently appointed Mohammed Malique as group lead for the U.K. and EU to drive the company’s expansion there.
MobileX's app-based service uses AI to predict how much data customers need, with promises of delivering a dramatic reduction in cost for consumers who don’t need more than 30 GB of data per month. Its "unlimited" plans are $20/month for 15 GB and $25/month for 30 GB.
MobileX was founded by its Adderton, who also founded Boost Mobile in Australia before bringing it to the U.S. and eventually selling it to Nextel Communications, which turned out to be no match made in heaven. U.S.-based Boost Mobile is now in the hands of Dish Wireless.
"Peiti and Michael are invaluable additions to our growing leadership team. Both have a proven track record and vast experience in the MVNO space where they drove growth and brand expansion opportunities for leading wireless brands," Adderton said in a statement. "MobileX is at the tipping point of overhauling the wireless industry as we know it, empowering consumers and transforming the way mobile services are delivered, and I can think of no better team to help us lead the charge."
