MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA – The Fira Barcelona Gran Via is not known for its gastronomical wonders, however we pestered our friends to send us pics of their delectable delights on and off the show floor (outside the infamous Jamón) and they stepped up to the challenge.
Paella
Who doesn't love paella? The giant flat skillet alone is fun, let alone the shrimp with legs swimming in a sea of rice. Jamie Moody, senior director, external communications from Ciena, said her paella was pretty spectacular on Wednesday evening. Sure looks it!
Empanadas
Empanadas are a favorite in Spain and beyond. We had these excellent tuna filled treats at La Penela during a media and analyst dinner hosted by BT. Thank you for the invite BT and CCGroup.
Shenzhen beef fried rice noodles
During the BT dinner mentioned above, we got a tip on amazing fresh made noodles at the Huawei booth in Hall 1 so we had to try. Huawei is known for its outdoor garden area at MWC with plenty of amazing food because bringing people together with food is an important part of the company culture. We could not agree more — especially when it involves stir-fried noodles.
DOCOMO's 'FEEL TECH' soup
One of the more interesting "drinks" we had at the show, was at the NTT DOCOMO stand where the Japanese company exhibited just-for-fun technology for the 6G era called "FEEL TECH." In the one demo, Dan Jones and I filled out a survey to determine our taste profiles (sweet, salty, sour, spicy) and then software created our own personal version of clear liquid that was supposed to be tomato soup. It was definitely interesting. Did it taste like tomato soup? Sort of. Kanpai!
Best food-based use of a logo
We hung out at AT&T's booth on Monday late afternoon and got to sample a wide-range of apps and custom drinks (see above for the The Connectivity Cocktail which was a Pisco Sour). The food display definitely won our vote for best use of a company logo in the form of a tiny potato chip. Tasty!
The moral of this story? The best food at the show is definitely in the booths and outside the Fira. We recommend you give the fish 'n' chips restaurant a pass. Thanks for the memories MWC 2024! We'll see you next year.
