T-Mobile added AppleCare to its $12-a-month device insurance plans at no additional cost.
The nation’s third-largest mobile carrier said users who buy a new iPhone or iPad are now covered under AppleCare if they also subscribe to T-Mobile’s Jump or Premium Device Protection offerings.
“Both T-Mobile’s Premium Device Protection (previously called Premium Handset Protection) and JUMP! with Premium Device Protection will now include AppleCare Services for eligible Un-carrier customers who recently purchased a new device,” the carrier said in a press release. “For just $12 a month, iPhone and iPad users can get complete peace of mind with protection from loss, theft or accidental damage, hardware coverage, the security features of Lookout Mobile Security® Premium—and now, award-winning AppleCare Services.”
AppleCare includes around-the-clock access to technical support; free battery service; software support for iOS, iCloud and Apple-branded iOS apps; and discounted service fees including $29 for iPhone screen repairs. T-Mobile’s insurance services are handled by Assurant, which provides mobile protection products and services for carriers around the world.
Jump, which is T-Mobile’s handset upgrade program, is available with the Premium Device Protection plan for $12 a month. A standalone Premium Device Protection offering is also available for $12 a month.
Apple sells AppleCare as an extension of its one-year limited warranty for iPhones, iPads, the Apple Watch and other gadgets. T-Mobile customers who buy a new iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus or new 9.7-inch iPad are eligible for the AppleCare offering.
