It wasn’t quite as early as expected -- the company was expecting to offer its mobile service in May -- but WideOpenWest (WOW) launched its WOW! mobile powered by Reach service in Montgomery, Alabama, on Wednesday.
Customers don’t need to be a WOW customer to sign up for the no-contract cell phone plans and unlimited talk and text. That’s different from the mobile offers from some of the big cable companies, which require consumers to be a customer of their broadband offerings.
That said, WOW high-speed internet customers could receive up to $10 off their WOW! mobile powered by Reach Mobile bill each month.
The WOW! mobile website lists four different plans ranging from $15 per line per month for 1 GB to $45 per line per month for 20 GB.
There’s no word on when the service might expand past Montgomery, but the company hinted at more “in the coming weeks,” when it looks forward to offering the mobile option to WOW customers across its footprint.
“We're very pleased that, with our partnership with Reach, we were able to bring this new option to market in less than six months,” a company spokesperson told Fierce via email.
WOW, the sixth largest cable operator in the U.S., serves markets across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Earlier this year, WOW announced it had partnered with Reach Mobile to offer wireless service leveraging “the nation’s largest 5G network,” which happens to be T-Mobile. The company pointed to the strong demand for high-speed internet and mobile services; Garter forecasts that remote workers will account for 53% of the U.S. workforce in 2022, making the need for fast, reliable broadband and mobile services even more critical.
Reach Mobile pitches its Reach Next Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform as a way to accelerate and streamline how companies bring network-based services to market.
Earlier this week, Reach Mobile CEO Harjot Saluja told Fierce that his firm is enjoying success in the U.S. market and looking to replicate the model in the European market.
